The ferry traffic is resumed
The ferry is repaired and now in the morning, the ferry traffic has been resumed and run on schedule.

There will not be any tour at 16:00. Repair of the leak in the water cooling system is ongoing. If successful soon, they will try to run the 18-tour. More information will come with SMS from the Taffic Information Center (TIC).

Now in the morning, the ferry traffic has been resumed and run on schedule.

Ferry cancelled
The last ferry tours at 18 from Norrfjärden and at 19 from Holmön are cancelled due to the ice situation. The ferry got stuck in the ice and was later in the evening assisted by Ale to be able to continue to Norrfjärden.

Kicksledge event
The year, the kicksledge event attracted about  30 participants. In bright sunshine and a brisk NE-wind all happy participans took off down the track. The condditions were terrific and some had a real pace. As ususal, blueberry soup was serves at the foot of the steep and fearful Lundström up-hill slope. Fastest this year was Mira Lundberg. After the excerzise, coffe, lemonade and home baked semmel buns were served. There was also a raffle. All excess was donated to the Red Cross. We thank Holmöns Red Cross section for an, as usual, nice event in the middle of the school winter holidays.

Holmöns isolation broken
At about 14:00, Capella could moor in Byviken on Holmön after assistance from the icebreaker ALE. On the jetty, there were about 30 persons that had been stranded on the island during the isolation. After about 30 min at the jetty, Capella departed towards the mainland with continued assistance from ALE. The regular traffic is expected to be resumed on schedule from the 16-tour from Norrfjärden. We'll see about that!

Capella on the move
Now ALE assists Capella. At the moment only with less than one knot speed. If everything goes well they will arrive i Byviken shortly. Capella will then depart a first tour from Holmön with turning traffick. Then depart on schedule at 16.00 from Norrfjärden.

According to AIS Marine Traffic, ALE is on its way north with 12 knots speed and is now passing Grossgrundet. ALE informs: The traffic situation looks good at Nordvalen, so we take the oppotunity to break up the ice in West Kvarken this afternoon.

According to AIS Marine Traffic, Capella is out by Pannan and Ale is on its way north with 12 knots speed. Ale is now a bit south of Holmögadd and has about 2 - 2,5 h runtime up to Capella.

Latest news about the ferry
Today it is change of shift on the ferry. The new crew have made another attempt to break through at Pannan without success. The ridges were if possible even lagrer. The icebreaker ALE is now on its way to assist a ship stuck in the ice outside of Husum. Ale will come tomorrow to assist the ferry. It is still unclear exactly when Ale will be here.

The suspension of Kvarken is raised
The probability that the ice shall grow so much that is will be possible to stake the snowmobile track is remote. For that reason, the suspension of N-S traffic in Kvarken will be raised from tomorrow 9 March. This means that the work with the snowmobile track will end for this season. The raise of the suspension will also facilitate for Ale to assist the ferry.

More information about the ferry and the ice
The ferry made an attempt to break through the hummocked ice at Pannan without success. The ferry traffic is cancelled for the time being. A change in the wind direction from NE to SW is expected during the afternoon. A new attempt will be made at that time. If assistance from the icebreaker is applied for, help can not be expected until this evening at about 8 pm.

Information regadring the ferry and the ice condtions
The afternoon tours today are cancelled due to the ice conditions. There are several ice walls about 2 m high at Pannan. The ferry cannot force these walls. The ferry can get icebreaker assistance about 20.00 Wednesday evening. The forecast is that the wind and ice pressure will decrease tomorrow. Tomorrow moring, they will try to break through the ice walls. If not successful, the track cannot be opened until Wednesday evening and the traffic resumed on Thursday morning.

Closure of Kvarken
From tomorrow morning 14 February, West Kvarken will be closed for sea traffic in north - south directions. The closure is made to secure the ice for a snowmobile track, to preserve the ferry track and level ice for possible hoovercraft traffic between Norrfjärden and Holmön.
